The activities at the Institute of Semiconductor Electronics encompass research on nanoelectronics, photovoltaic and sensor devices. Our research aims at understanding the fundamental processes underlying the various electronic phenomena and their exploitation for e.g. novel field-effect transistor devices, third generation solar cells or highly sensitive microelectromechanical sensors. For an experimental realization the Institute operates well-equipped laboratories including optical characterization, a clean-room facility and a pilot line for solar cell fabrication. In addition, our experimental work is supported by simulations relying either on commercially available or home-made simulation tools.
